Almonds Market Update February 2022 Week 6
Welcome to the bloom!
We're delighted to report that California continues to have dream-like spring weather conditions, with the entire state reporting varying 70s. As you know, January has been on record as one of the driest months in history. As we move into February, temperatures get even warmer, and the days get longer.
We went from 160% to average snow at the end of December to only 70% to normal across the state. This is a stark contrast in just a month, and it is expected that it will reduce to 40% to normal by April. A stark contrast in one month.
Shipping Updates
The January shipping report was released on Feb 11 by the Almond Board of California. Last year, in January, the industry had already shipped out 194 million pounds, largely considered the weakest shipping months of the year. This year, the industry expects about 180 million pounds.
Logistical setbacks are primarily the reason behind this, with a lack of containers slowing global exports.
By this time last year, 1.477 billion pounds of almonds had been shipped for the 2020/21 crop. So far, it is expected that 1.240 billion pounds will be released.
We will continue to monitor the situation and will definitely update you once more crop sales are known.
