Hazelnut Market Update January 2022 Week 2

The Turkish market has once again started to export hazelnuts into the new season. As of 09.01.2022, Turkey has successfully exported 165,069 tons of hazelnut. This is significantly higher than last year when the export numbers were 110,023 tons. However, in the 2019/2020 season, the export numbers for this time of the year was 173,434 tons.

Back in August 2021, the starting crop prices for natural hazelnut kernels of 11-13mm were about 6.680 USD/ton (5.72 Euro/ton). During the Lira crisis at the end of 2021, these prices fluctuated greatly in the domestic market, causing a lot of uncertainty.

Today, hazelnuts of the 11-13mm kernel prices for European delivery are 6.180 USD/ton (5,450 Euro/ton).

The TMO has stopped purchasing hazelnuts since the end of December. In total, they have been reported to have purchased about 70,000 tons of in-shell hazelnuts.

. TL/USD rates are still in a very volatile state since December. If certain stability is achieved in the parity, we predict that prices will be in the range of 6000-6500 USD/Ton.
