Pistachios Market Update February 2022 Week 6
As you all know, the drought and excessive heat had definitely affected last year's pistachio crop by 35%, damaging an estimated 135,000 mt of the potential crop as water scarcity continued.
This is a clear indication of climate change, especially in the Kerman province, where pistachio production has lowered significantly.
Of course, the good news is that the pistachio crop comprises 520,000 HA in 28 provinces, so Iran is more than well-equipped to meet a good chunk of the global demand.
Iranian pistachios have a particularly good taste, making their demand incomparable. Global pistachio demand exceeds 2 million mt while only 600,000 mt is produced, particularly in Asia, the US, and Europe.
Prices have remained stagnant at a high level ever since the Chinese New Year. For Ahmad Aghaei pistachios, size 24-26, prices have risen by EUR 0.27/kg in the last two weeks.
