Pumpkin Seeds Market Update January 2022 Week 4

As you know, we don’t often talk about the pumpkin seeds market unless we have raw data to help you gain a comprehensive understanding of what is happening in the market. So, with this in mind, we received the following information which might be helpful to you.

Current Crop Update

It is expected that the pumpkin seeds market will fluctuate until the beginning of the summer months, May most probably. But it will do so slowly without any major changes. However, this season’s main concern is timely delivery and cash flow. 

Given the situation, most dealers request payment upon delivery which is imposing pressure on the cash flow.

Pumpkin Seeds Varieties and Updates to Remember

Interestingly, we’ve observed an increase in prices for organic seeds from 80 to 100 USD/MT. Organic pumpkin seeds are becoming less available in the market as large quantities of these have already been bought.

Furthermore, we noticed a fall in the prices of shine skin pumpkin seeds, going down from 18.5 RMB/kg to 17.7 RMB/kg. Similarly, CIF prices have been reported to fall to 150 USD/MT.

However, it is worth noticing that we’ve seen a fall in prices for GWS varieties too, at the price of 22RMB/kg. There is a possibility that the demand is being controlled by collectors locally since it has been reported that the quantity of GWS is smaller than the Shine Skin varieties.

Furthermore, there’s been a decrease in the availability of the GWS crop compared to last year as well. While this is primarily due to speculation and freight issues, the general understanding is that fewer GWS varieties are available in the market.
