Walnut Market Updates March 2022 Week 10

It is reported that the US crop will be arriving late due to unexpected rain that occurred during the late harvest season. This follows from the news that it is expected that USA walnut production will have seen a decrease of 8% from last year. The supply chain and logistical issues concerning shipments and ports have continued to add stress to the walnut market. The positive news is that of demand. Demand is expected to remain high going into the future.

China will remain to be the largest walnut producer. While their production numbers are essentially not different from last year, they are still producing by far more than any other country in the world. Though the increase in transportation and labour cost have presented challenges, and with supply chain issues affecting all in the industry, the markets will have a tough time. It is expected that the demand will remain at the levels it was before the Chinese New Year. However, the pandemic and the Ukraine crisis does have a significant part to play in further developments.
