Almond Market Update February 2022 Week 7
The almond bloom is rapidly spreading all across the United States. The most has been reported in the northern states, where most orchards have entered peak bloom this week, which is quicker than in recent years.
Central regions are a couple of days behind the northern states. The southern region is behind the central by a day or two. It is expected that both central and southern regions of the United States will attain peak numbers of open flowers this week.
There has been a reported variety of overlap between different flowers, but the timing of the early and late bloomers is only three or four apart. Of course, rapid bloom progression gives bees less time to pollinate, but farmers aren't too worried.
It has been reported from the Durham and Orland areas that while the bloom is about five to seven days earlier than last year, the bees have been ready for pollination.
Beekeepers have already placed hives in fields, and irrigation has already begun. There is full moisture once leaves start emerging. Disease pressure is low, and farmers across the United States remain optimistic.
