Macadamia Market Update February 2022 Week 7
We all know that for most macadamia nut regions, it is currently an off-season since the 2022 crop is still growing and the last 2021 crop is being traded. Most crop purchases have already been made from these countries, and spot market stocks are currently underway to see if demand will remain high once the new crop is here.
It has been reported that there may be a shortage in Europe, which has led to price increases in the European spot market in the past few weeks.
However, this isn't a worrying situation as the new crop is expected to have high yields and large kernels.
Cyclone Anna Disrupts Zimbabwe
Cyclone Anna in Zimbabwe has definitely created problems for producers, especially in the Chipinge growing regions. In the east of the country, farmers continue to suffer heavy losses since their mature trees have been uprooted.
Since macadamia production in Zimbabwe has expanded to include small shareholders as well, this might be concerning. Most macadamia nuts from Zimbabwe are exported to Europe and China.
While exporters report good demand from these regions, we will have to see what the harvest looks like to make any further comments. We will let you know as the situation progresses.
