Almond Market Update March 2022 Week 12
It has been reported that between March 2021 and January 2022, Australia exported approximately 84,433 mt of almonds. This is an increase of more than 14% from the same interval during the previous period.
Exporters report that the previous season's record of 76,693 mt was already exceeded several months ago. This season's exports, therefore, have set a new record. Furthermore, it has been reported China's imports have seen a 36% and India's is around 50%, a massive gain for Australian almonds for the 2021/22 season.
On the European front, it has been noted that exports to Spain have increased to 4,910 mt, more than a 50% increase. However, Germany's imports have fallen by 42%. USA imports have decreased the most, at a decrease of 78% to only 874 mt.
However, Australia expects the coming year to set another record for exports as well. We shall let you know as the season progresses.
The news of the potential of frost damage in California has certainly sent almond prices soaring in the European spot market. There have been downward corrections too. Now Valencias (12/14 mm, natural) are being sold at EUR 4.35/kg FCA Spain. Meanwhile, California almonds (SSR, 23/25 blanched) are being sold at EUR 5.35/kg FCA Spain.
