Pecan Market Update April 2022 Week 17
The North American crop for 2021 was lower than most hoped. This has led to several suppliers being worried about their contracts and whether it is possible for them to fulfil them. Growers are still hopeful for the 2022 crop, but we'll have to wait for that to understand what the market looks like.
In the south of the United States, pecan trees have slowly returned to life. As the first small, green nuts are forming, growers are supplying trees with nutrients, fertilisers and protection against insects- everything needed to make way for a healthy crop.
On the other hand, in the southern hemisphere, harvesting has already begun in South Africa, Australia and South America. Prices for pecans in the European spot market have increased in the past few weeks, partially due to high freight costs and low stock availability.
