Sustainability in 2021: What Does the Future Hold?
Sustainability is a hot topic right now. As the world attempts to reopen once more, we have to face a major challenge that has the potential to alter human history: sustainability. The subject itself has already caused a lot of controversies.
But it is necessary since sustainability deals with every major issue we’re facing, from pollution to climate change to other issues affecting the world. If we change our ways and learn to operate sustainably, regardless of our belief system, we will be able to save our planet for the coming generations.
Unfortunately, over the last several years, we have seen leaders all across the globe ignore this major issue. That is why it is essential that the objective of sustainability is met worldwide.
Tackling Climate Change
The first step for tackling climate change was seen by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) during the 26th UN Climate Change Conference when it announced a series of initiatives that put forestry and agriculture at the center of the solution needed to tackle climate change.
It wasn’t just about the industries, though. The USDA also noted the human implications of climate change and even pledged to help rural communities suffering from climate change.
Additionally, during this conference, several other initiatives were launched to catapult major economic players into sustainability move forwards.
Initiatives Taken
The United States and the United Arab Emirates have launched a joint initiative called the Agriculture Innovation Mission for Climate (AIM for Climate), which brings over 30 countries and 40 NGOs together to mobilize climate-friendly innovation in agriculture from 2021 to 2025.
Additionally, the USDA has partnered with The Climate-Smart Agriculture and Forestry Partnership Initiative to improve practices and protocols concerning monitoring and tracking carbon and greenhouse gas emissions.
Better yet, the United States has even begun a joint US-EU collaboration to take on the challenges of sustainability and climate change worldwide. This international coalition is designed to tackle global sustainability issues and enhance sustainable production to confront climate change.
What Do We Hope to see from This?
These programs and initiatives have been launched with the goal of exchanging ideas to help solve some of the challenges faced by us so that we can build a better future without anyone being left behind.
Both Developed and Emerging economies have been seen taking part in this new plan, a far cry from just a year ago when so many countries and their leaders were ignoring the plight of the environment. We hope to see more of these plans and also hope to see them initiated so that they become part of our daily lives.
