Walnut Insights December 2021
In this walnut insight, we’re going to establish a connection between the economic situation in Turkey and its impact on the walnut industry. Due to the recent fall in the Turkish Lira value, Turkey has significantly decreased its imports. This includes importing nuts and dried fruit such as walnuts.
As Turkey is the main importer of Ukrainian walnuts, a stop in purchase has led to a large amount of in-shell walnuts left. So, to deal with this unexpected situation, Ukraine has lowered the price of in-shell walnuts for the second half of January 2022 and onwards.
Seeing Ukraine’s new prices, Romania has also decreased the price of their walnuts for the second half of January and onwards. Meanwhile, in the United States, we previously reported that due to the drought, the harvest figures had been very off. Due to the frost brought by the weather change, we’ve seen that most of this year’s crop has already been damaged.
To deal with this, the United States has decided to start cracking in-shells so that it can sell cracked nuts for the remaining season. Apart from this, not much has happened in the walnut industry this month. We will keep you posted as soon as we have more information.
