Walnut Market Update January 2022 Week 2
As we stated last week in our market report, walnut exports from China increased by 60% in export value terms. Now we have received reports that exports of Chinese walnut in-shells and kernels are at the record highest for the year.
As it was with 2021 crops, the export kernels doubled over by 45,000 to 47,000 tons, and the exports of in-shell walnuts have increased by 50% to 110,000 to 115,000 tons.
In the past few days, we saw the resolution of the walnut export issue caused by the lack of accessibility to the Turkish market. The strengthening of the Turkish Lira certainly helped resolve this problem.
The market demand is low, which has led to a decrease in price as suppliers are interested in catering to any interested parties.
Since China was able to attract India to its walnut market, the US walnut crop couldn’t sell as much as it could have. There is still an ample supply of Californian walnuts come January and later months. So, if you’re interested in walnuts of the American variety, you’re in luck as stock is expected to remain so until March at the most.
We will keep you posted as we learn more.
