Peanut Market Update - April 2022, Week 14
The impact of the Russia-Ukraine conflict on peanuts is uncertain. Brazil and Argentina will be affected by this situation too. Both the countries export peanuts to the two mentioned countries in conflict. This means that the exports of both countries would see a decrease. How much pressure this puts on Brazil and Argentina is to be determined.
Argentina would be able to find alternative markets, as their peanut exports to Russia/Ukraine are pretty small compared to other venues, and Argentine quality is rated around the world.
Since it exports a large proportion of its exports to these countries, Brazil would have a relatively tough time.
Beyond this, the uncertainty this conflict will cause to the exports of Brazil and Argentina will lead to further incidental events in Brazil and Argentina. The new crop is yet to be harvested, but land rent has become a topic of discussion. If the peanut prices do not increase or the exports lost due to the conflict are accounted for, these two countries would lose many peanut acres.
